Mali bracia Ubogich (Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly) in Poland aims to avert marginalization of elderly people, it wants to act against stereotypes about aging and to put the society on alert about the situation of the elderly. First of all, however, the organization aims to be close to the lonely elderly to make them live the rest of their lives in happiness and and with the faith in benevolence of other people. Our volunteers are not only assist the elderly, but, most of the time, they are their friends. The volunteers visit those who live alone, they take care of their physical health and mental well-being. They accompany seniors, talk with them, go for walks, to the theater, to an exhibitions. They organize short trips in the neighborhood. They remember the dates of birthdays, they are with the lonely during holiday celebrations. The Little Brothers prepare Christmas meetings, take care of the decorations, the Christmas dinner and warm atmosphere. In all their actions the volunteers and staff of mali bracia Ubogich implement the rule: ‘flowers before bread’. The motto emphasizes the necessity to build a warm atmosphere between the volunteer and the elderly, the atmosphere which is based on understanding, good will and mutual friendliness. We wish to reach those who need us the most – people who suffer from loneliness. Our objective is to act against their isolation. THERE IS NO TOMORROW FOR AGING IN SORROW! |
